Blue Track & Field Picks up Two Wins at Smith Winter Classic

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. -- Wellesley dominated in the 3000 meter run with three top finishers in the non-team scoring Smith Winter Classic.

Senior Maya Bradbury (Freeport, Maine) took first place in the 3000m run with a time of 10:32.93. Just behind her was Claire Anderson (Denver, Colo.) who took the silver with a time of 10:32.99. Junior Ellie Murphy-Weise (San Francisco, Calif.) posted a 10:41.28 which was good for third place. 

The Blue also earned a victory in the 4x200 meter relay, recording a winning time of 1:53.29. The victory was over nine seconds faster than second place Castleton.

Mid-distance runner Sally Richardson (Orono, Minn.) placed fifth out of 16 runners in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:04.65. In the longer distance, Bianca Lee (Hong Kong, China) posted a 3:39.34 which was good for sixth place.

The top field finisher of the day for Wellesley was Erin Dickinson, who took fifth in the long jump with a leap of 4.60m. Junior Ariel Traver (Palo Alto, Calif.) had a solid performance in the triple jump with a final round of 9.20m and good for sixth place.

Other finishers for Wellesley included Lauryn Collins with a 6.83m toss in the weight throw and Kiara Dozier (7.98m), Collins (7.77m), and Zeynep Yalcin (6.09m) in the shot put event.

Junior Dallis Kehoe (Norwell, Mass.) placed sixth in the 60 meter hurdles, posting a time of 10.47 which was less than a second behind the first place finisher. Eriko Darcy (Chicago, Ill.) took fifth in the 60 meter dash. 

Three Blue runners competed in the 200 meter dash, with Taylor Quaye (Redondo Beach, Calif.), Merete Ogha (Austin, Texas), and Ria Goveas (Bangalore, India) finishing in 8th, 12th, and 13th respectively.

Wellesley returns to action after the winter break on Saturday, January 15 at the Wheaton Invitational.
