Wellesley Places Fifth at the Wheaton College Invitational

NORTON, Mass. -- Wellesley track & field finishes in fifth place at the Wheaton College Invitational on Saturday. Colby College finished in first with 166 points as a team. In second was WPI with 132, followed by Bridgewater St. with 78, Wheaton with 38, and Wellesley with 36.

Senior Ari Marks (Eagle Point, Ore.) set a new personal record in the mile run, clocking in at 5:12.89 and taking first place. Junior Claire Anderson (Denver, Colo.) placed third at 5:20.94 which was a new personal best. In fourth was Maya Bradbury (Freeport, Maine) who also set a new PR at 5:22.42. In the 4x800 meter relay, Marks, Anderson, Bradbury, and Jesenia Lopez (Fontana, Calif.) took first place as a unit with a time of 10:32.60. The four Blue runners finsihed more than 27 seconds faster than the second place relay team from Wheaton.

Dallis Kehoe (Athens, Ohio) placed seventh in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 10.21 seconds. Wellesley also received a seventh place finish from Aoife Fitzgerald who ran a 1:25.22 in the 500 meter dash.

The top finisher in the 300 meter dash for the Blue was junior Sally Richardson (Orono, Minn.) who finished in 45.96 seconds.

In the long jump, first year Ria Goveas (Bangalore, India) placed fourth at 4.23m which was a personal best. Also finishing in the top-10 in the event was Ana Rubin (Weston, Fla.) with a best jump of 3.17m. 

Wellesley will return to action on Friday, January 28 for the Terrier Invite at Boston University.
