GENEVA, Ohio – Wellesley track & field senior Ari Marks (Eagle Point, Ore.) won the 2022 NCAA Division III National Championship in the 5000 meter run on Saturday afternoon at the SPIRE Institute. Marks completed the distance double after winning the 10,000 meter national title on Thursday. 

Marks set a new personal and program record with a time of 16:08.90 to take home the gold. She finished with the second fastest time in meet history and the fourth fastest time in NCAA Division III history. Marks is the second student-athlete in Wellesley College history to win multiple national championships, joining diver Maura Sticco-Ivins '18.

Marks began the race with a steady pace before she picked it up in second half to pass second place finisher Kassie Parker (16:19.65) of Loras College. Ella Baran of Johns Hopkins ran a 16:20.49 to place third. 

Marks completes her track & field career at Wellesley with two individual national championships (10K and 5K) and a pair of national runner-up finishes in the indoor 3k and 5k. Marks was also the individual national runner-up at the 2021 NCAA Cross Country Championships.
