Wellesley Track and Field Competes in Tufts Cupid Challenge

MEDFORD, Mass. - Wellesley College track and field earned points in four events to finish 11th at the Tufts Cupid Challenge on Saturday.

Host Tufts won the team competition with 151 points, followed by Amherst (132) and MIT (93.75). 

The 4x800 meter team made up of first years Claire Peng (Chapel Hill, N.C.), Ella Whinney (Madison, Wis.), senior Ellie Murphy-Weise (San Francisco, Calif.), and first year Aleah Ghiasuddin (Newburyport, Mass.) placed third, running a 9:52.53.

Wellesley's 4x200 meter relay team of senior Sally Richardson (Orono, Minn.), sophomore Ria Goveas (Bangalore, India), junior Taylor Quaye (Redondo Beach, Calif.), and sophomore Merete Ogah (Austin, Texas) ran a 1:53.26 for a fourth place finish.

Whinney earned points for Wellesley in the 1000 meter race by running a personal-best 3:02.88 to finish fifth while seniors Claire Anderson (Denver, Colo.) and Murphy-Weise were sixth and eighth in the mile with times of 5:17.32 and 5:18.99. Murphy-Weise's time set a PR for the senior.

Sophomore Aoife Fitzgerald (Paxton, Mass.) ran a 1:02.46 and placed ninth in the 400 meter dash and senior Emily Doyle (Mobile, Ala.) set a new best throwing for 11.62m in the weight throw to finish 11th. 

The Blue compete next Friday in the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University.
