WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College cross country and track & field alumna Clare Egan '10 (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) has qualified to represent the U.S. Olympic Team as a biathlete at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang, South Korea.

Egan, who was Wellesley's first ever outdoor track & field All-American when she finished sixth nationally in the 1,500m at the 2010 NCAA Division III Championships, is the first Wellesley alumna to ever qualify for the U.S. Olympic Team. Egan will join Collette Flesch '60, who represented Luxembourg in fencing in 1960, 1964, and 1968, and Isheau Wong '11, who represented Chinese Taipei in equestrian last summer in Rio, as Wellesley's third Olympian. Egan is the first Wellesley alumna to ever qualify for the Winter Olympic Games.

Egan is the only runner in Wellesley cross country history to claim New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Runner of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and Seven Sisters Championship individual champion honors in the same season, doing so in 2006. She went on to found the Wellesley Nordic Skiing club team and was the first athlete to represent Wellesley in NCAA Nordic skiing, competing in the NCAA Championships during her senior year.

After graduating from Wellesley in 2010 with a degree in International Communication, she competed in Nordic Skiing for a year at the University of New Hampshire while working toward her graduate degree in Linguistics. She was named to the U.S. Biathlon team's World Championship team roster in 2015 and was a member of the 2015 and 2016 World Championship teams.

The PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games and Paralympic Winter Games will take place from February 9-25.
