Wellesley Cross Country Team Headed to NCAA Championships in Louisville
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Wellesley cross country team will compete in the NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Championships in Louisville, Kentucky. Championship selections were announced by the NCAA Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Committee on Sunday. The women's race will take place on Saturday, Nov. 20 at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Kentucky starting at 12:00 PM ET.
The Blue earned an at-large bid after a fifth place finish at the NCAA Division III East Regional Championship at Franklin Park on Saturday. Senior Ari Marks (Eagle Point, Ore.) finished in first with a time of 21:16.5, a personal best. Along with Marks, Blue runners Claire Anderson (Denver, Colo.), Maya Bradbury (Freeport, Maine), Ellie Murphy-Weise (San Francisco, Calif.), and Lily Herold all earned All-Region honors.
In order to be eligible to participate in the championships, teams and individuals had to qualify in their respective NCAA regional competitions that were held this weekend.
Thirty-two teams were selected to participate in each championship. The top seven-person team automatically qualified from each of the 10 regions, for a total of 10 teams. Twenty-two additional teams were selected at-large.
