MEDFORD, Mass. -- Melissa Manzello (Shoreham, N.Y.) and Gillian Roeca (Baltimore, Md.) each tallied two goals in a 7-0 win for Tufts over Wellesley on Wednesday night.

The non-conference loss snaps a three-game winning streak for the Blue, who fall to 6-4 overall, but remain undefeated in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play at 4-0. Tufts improves to 8-2 overall and 5-1 in the NESCAC.

Early in the first period, the Jumbo got its dream start after Roeca put up two goals just 40 seconds apart. Tufts would not quit and got a third goal a minute later from Claire Foley (Louisville, Ky.) and took a 3-0 lead. In the second quarter, Reegan McCluskey (Los Gatos, Calif.) added a fourth goal off a penalty stroke. The final goal in the half came from Mazello off an assist by McClusky and Tufts carried a 5-0 lead into the half.

The Jumbo added a quick goal by Manzello in the third and a seventh goal in the final period by Carolyn Thompson (Hampton Falls, N.H.). Wellesley failed to record a shot on goal in the game. Goalkeeper Kyra Deehr-Lewis (Newtown, Penn.) played all 60 minutes and made 10 saves in the contest.

The Blue get back to NEWMAC play on the road against MIT on Saturday, October 16, at 12:00 PM. Tufts will also play on Saturday at noon at home versus Amherst.
