Wellesley Tennis Tops Endicott, 6-3

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- In a match-up of two 2012 NCAA Tournament teams, it was Wellesley College that came out on top, defeating Endicott College, 6-3 on Saturday afternoon in Wellesley. The Blue open the season 1-0, while Endicott evens it's season record to 1-1.

It was the Gulls who struck first, jumping out to a 2-1 advantage after doubles play. Endicott's Emilie Cloutier and Gina Pinciaro topped Abby Esrock and Veronica Lin, 8-5 at two, while Amy Heacox and Brittany Potter paired up for an 8-2 victory over Wellesley's Elena Bowen and Mayanka Kumar at three. The Blue's Sojung Lee and Diana Granger accounted for Wellesley's doubles point, defeating Chrissy Martel and Natalie Egbert, 8-2, at one.

In singles play, Wellesley turned the tables on the Gulls, taking five out of six matches to seal the 6-3 victory. At one, Erica Choo was a 6-4, 6-3, winner over Martel, while at two Granger topped Cloutier, 6-7(9), 6-1, 10-7. Catherine Matulis picked up a win for the Blue at three, defeating Egbert 6-4, 6-0. 

Endicott picked up its third point of the day at four singles, where Heacox topped Suzanne Barth 6-3, 6-3. Wellesley, however, won fifth and sixth singles to take the match. At five, Joyce Chen was a 6-4, 6-3 winner over Pinciaro, while Ann Martel rounded out the box score with a 6-1, 6-3, win over Annie Gluskin. 

Wellesley will rest until September 15th when the Blue take on Smith College on the road at 1:00pm. Endicott returns to action on Thursday, opening conference play with a 4:00pm match against Emmanuel.
