Five Wellesley Tennis Players Earn All-Conference Honors
WELLESLEY, Mass. – The Wellesley College tennis team took home several post-season awards on Tuesday, as announced by the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference. Five Wellesley student-athletes were named to either first-team or second-team All-Conference.
Earning first-team All-NEWMAC honors for the Blue was sophomore Sojung Lee, while juniors Catherine Matulis, Diana Granger and Erica Choo, as well as sophomore Joyce Chen all garnered a second-team selection.
Lee earned a spot on the All-Conference team as a first-team selection in the number three singles spot. She is a repeat selection to the team, after being named second-team All-Conference at five singles last year. Lee went 7-2 in dual matches this season, including a 6-1 mark against NEWMAC opponents.
In addition to her singles nod, Lee paired with Granger to earn second-team All-Conference at number one doubles. The duo teamed up to earn a 7-3 record in dual matches, while compiling a 5-1 mark in NEWMAC play. Both Lee and Granger earned the NEWMAC honor in doubles last season, each competing with a different partner.
Also earning a second-team All-NEWMAC selection in doubles were Choo and Chen, who captured the honor at number two. The pair went 5-3 this fall, with a 4-1 mark in the NEWMAC. Chen was named to the All-Conference team at doubles last season, while this is the first doubles honor for Choo.
Rounding out the All-Conference nods for Wellesley, Matulis earned a second-team selection at number four singles. A newcomer to the team, she compiled a 6-2 overall record this fall, including a 5-1 mark against NEWMAC opponents.
