Olson, Huang, Stojkovic and Chen Named to NEWMAC Tennis All-Conference Team

BOSTON, Mass. – The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) released the 2015 Women's Tennis All-Conference Teams on Tuesday morning and four Wellesley College tennis student-athletes have been recognized for their outstanding play during the 2015 fall season.

Leading the way for the Blue was Emily Olson (La Jolla, Calif.), as the sophomore was named to the NEWMAC All-Conference second team at number four singles and number one doubles. First year Justine Huang (Coto de Caza, Calif.) also garnered All-Conference second team honors at number one doubles. In addition, the duo of juniors Andjela Stojkovic (Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada) and Carina Chen (Hong Kong) earned All-Conference second team honors at number two doubles.

Olson put together a 4-1 overall record at number four singles in conference play to earn the first All-Conference nod of her career. She went on to add another victory at number four in Wellesley's NEWMAC semifinal defeat to Babson, finishing the fall at 6-2 overall in singles play while playing all but one of her matches in the number four position. In doubles play, Olson and Huang combined to go 4-2 in NEWMAC play at the number one position. Overall, the duo went 7-4, sporting a 5-3 record at number one singles.

The Blue's number two doubles pairing of Chen and Stojkovic posted a 4-1 overall mark this fall, including a 3-0 record in conference matches to earn second team All-Conference honors. The award is the first All-Conference recognition for Stojkovic and the second for Chen, who was named second team All-Conference at number three singles last season.

MIT junior Elysa Kohrs (Half Moon Bay, Calif.) was selected as the Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive season. Her coach, Carol Matsuzaki earned her second straight Coach of the Year honors while Engineer's first year, Kelly Zhu (Houston, Texas) was selected as the Rookie of the Year. Smith College and Mount Holyoke both shared the NEWMAC Sportsmanship Award honors. All-Conference voting is conducted among the head coaches for NEWMAC women's tennis.
