Wellesley Tennis Starts Spring Season with 9-0 Win over Nichols

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College tennis began the spring season with a 9-0 non-conference win over Nichols College (9-4 Overall) at Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse on Saturday.

The Blue (1-0 Overall) began the day with a 3-0 sweep of doubles. Senior Melinda Alviar (Indianapolis, Ind.) and sophomore Emilee Pak (Chicago, Ill.) gave the Blue its first point with an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles against Nichols first years Erin Helly (Glocester, R.I.) and Cora Brosch (Papendorf, Germany)

No. 1 and 3 doubles were not far behind for Wellesley. First years Kriti Sarav (Chicago, Ill.) and Dalia Khera (Houston, Texas) defeated juniors Bethany Prendergast (Warwick, R.I.) and Kiley O'Brien (Cumberland, R.I.) 8-2 at No. 3 doubles. Senior Annissa Mu (Saratoga, Calif.) and first year Suzanne Xu (Boyds, Md.) grabbed an 8-3 victory over junior Antonia Carrero (Hamburg, Germany) and sophomore Sofia Leonardi (São Paulo, Brazil)

Pak ran Wellesley's lead to 4-0 with a 6-1, 6-4 win over junior Johanna Schroeder (Mexico City, Mexico) at No. 3 singles. 

No. 1 and 2 singles finished at nearly the same time to clinch the match for the Blue. Xu earned a 7-5, 6-4 win over Volger at No. 2 while Mu battled to a three-set 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 win over Carrero at No. 1.

Madhusudan earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles. Sarav and senior Jennifer Fan (Vancouver, British Columbia) closed out the 9-0 victory with wins at No. 5 and 6 singles. Sarav won 6-3, 6-3 and Fan earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory.

Up next, Wellesley travels to New York U. to face the Violets at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 24. The Bison head to Smith on Saturday, February 17 for a 1:00 PM match.
