Mu, Xu, No. 1 Doubles Earn NEWMAC Women's Tennis Second Team All-Conference Honors

WESTWOOD, Mass. -- The NEWMAC unveiled the annual Women's Tennis All-Conference Teams on Thursday. Senior Annissa Mu (Saratoga, Calif.) and first year Suzanne Xu (Boyds, Md.) represent Wellesley College tennis in singles on the Second Team All-Conference. In doubles, Mu and classmate Melinda Alviar (Indianapolis, Ind.) receive the Second Team All-Conference accolade.

Annissa Mu | Sr. | Saratoga, Calif. | NEWMAC Second Team All-Conference Singles

Mu receives her second career NEWMAC Second Team All-Conference honor in singles. Mu picked up 11 wins in singles this season, including eight in the No. 1 singles spot in dual-match competition. Mu went 5-2 in NEWMAC competition and also made the Round of 32 at the ITA Regionals in the fall with an opening round win over Nichols.

Suzanne Xu | Fy. | Boyds, Md. | NEWMAC Second Team All-Conference Singles

Xu makes the NEWMAC Second Team All-Conference following a 14-6 season in singles. Xu went 6-2 in NEWMAC singles play, primarily at the No. 2 position. She earned a 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 win over No. 40 Brandeis at No. 2 singles, and also picked up a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Wheaton at the No. 1 singles slot.

Annissa Mu/Melinda Alviar | NEWMAC Second Team All-Conference Doubles

Mu and Alviar collect the Second Team All-Conference honor together for a second time, having previously received the recognition in 2022. The pair earned a dozen wins together this season, including going 6-3 at the No. 1 doubles position in NEWMAC matches. The duo nearly defeated the No. 12 ranked New York University No. 1 doubles team, falling 8-7. Mu and Alviar picked up an 8-4 win in doubles against Springfield in the first round of the NEWMAC Championship.

The 2023-24 NEWMAC Women's Tennis All-Conference Team consisted of a first team of six singles and three doubles honorees and second team of six singles and three doubles honorees, as voted on by the 10 head women's tennis coaches.

NEWMAC Announces 2024 Women's Tennis Postseason Awards


The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) consists of 12 highly selective institutions committed to academic excellence: Babson College, Clark University, U.S Coast Guard Academy, Emerson College, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Mount Holyoke College, Salve Regina University, Smith College, Springfield College, Wellesley College, Wheaton College, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
