Whinney Wins 3000m Steeplechase at New England DIII Championships

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College track & field sophomore Ella Whinney (Madison, Wis.) won the 3000m Steeplechase event at the New England DIII Championship, taking place at the Mount Holyoke College Turf and Track Complex. The Blue placed 22nd in a field of 36 teams overall.

Whinney had a season-best time of 10:40.76 to win by nearly 12 seconds. Whinney's time currently ranks ninth in Division III this season.

MIT won the team competition with 108.5 points. Tufts finished second with 78.5 points and Bowdoin captured third with 64 points.

Seniors Ria Goveas (Bangalore, India) Eriko Darcy (Chicago, Ill.), Taylor Quaye, and junior Merete Ogah (Austin, Texas) had a season-best time of 49.63 to take sixth out of 19 teams in the 4x100m Relay. The quartet scored three points for the Blue.

Sophomore Charlie Barron (Chattanooga, Tenn.) took 22nd in the 400m race with a time of 1:00.70, only .13 seconds off of a personal-best.

Junior Merete Ogah (Austin, Texas) placed 23rd overall in the 200m dash with a time of 26.24.

Next up, the Blue compete at the NEICAAA Outdoor Championship on May 10-11.
