Wellesley To Welcome Nevin Caple in Support of Trans Day of Visibility Campaign

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Wellesley College Athletics will welcome Nevin Caple (pronouns: she, her, hers), a Strategic Inclusion Consultant and national thought leader on inclusion in sport, for a series of events during Wellesley College's weeklong Trans Day of Visibility Campaign, March 11-15, 2019.

Nevin's work brings individuals together to develop a deeper understanding of race, gender and LGBT identities, frequently collaborating with athletic administrators to facilitate inclusion programming and develop sustainable inclusion strategies. Nevin is Co-founder and Managing Partner of the LGBT SportSafe Inclusion Program, founded to create an inclusive infrastructure for athletic administrators and coaches to support student-athletes.

All Wellesley students are invited to hear Nevin's keynote lecture on LGBT inclusion and improving the climate of the athletic community at Wellesley on Tuesday, March 12, from 7:30-8:30 PM in the Alumnae Hall Ballroom. During the event, Nevin will discuss: creating inclusive team climates, what to do when athletes come out, utilizing campus equality resources, and proactive versus reactive responses. On Wednesday, March 13, Nevin will lead a discussion with the Physical Education, Recreation, and Athletics (PERA) Department and Campus Partners from 9:00-10:30 AM in the Alumnae Hall Ballroom. She will share an overview of the knowledge, tools and resources to support student-athletes and colleagues, while upholding institutional values. Among the topics of discussion will be: interactions of race, religion and gender, privilege and influence, and proactive versus reactive responses.

Nevin will continue discussions throughout the day on Wednesday, meeting for closed session workshops with PERA Coaches/Administrators and with leaders of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and team captains to discuss climate and learn about opportunities to create a more inclusive athletic department.

Nevin sits on the Women's Sports Foundation's Advocacy Committee, National Center for Lesbian Rights' National Leadership Council, and serves as a member of the faculty for WeCOACH. Nevin was retained as the Diversity & Inclusion Consultant for the CIAA Conference, the nations oldest Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) athletic conference in the country, and regularly partners with the NCAA on inclusion initiatives. She is a founding member of the Nike LGBT Sports Foundation and currently resides in Brooklyn, NY.
