Roberts Elevated to Director of PERA Communications & New Media

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Miles Roberts has been promoted to the role of Director of Physical Education, Recreation and Athletics (PERA) Communications and New Media. Roberts assumed his new responsibilities on May 1st.

"This title change is more reflective of the contributions and skills that Miles brings to the department," said Bethany Ellis, Director of Athletics and Chair of the PERA Department. "It is well-deserved."

As Director of Communications and New Media, Roberts will now serve as part of PERA's Senior Staff leadership team while continuing to provide gameday, social media, and external media support for each of Wellesley's 13 intercollegiate athletic programs. Roberts originally joined Wellesley in October 2014 as interim Sports Information Director and was named Wellesley's Director of Sports Information in June 2015.

While at Wellesley, Roberts' efforts have culminated in an ESPN W Top-10 highlight featuring the Blue volleyball team, coverage of Wellesley student-athletes and programming in NCAA Champion Magazine, and nationwide coverage in numerous hometown newspapers. Roberts implemented a strategic plan with a focus on increased social media presence that has seen an over 25% increase in followers on both Facebook and Twitter and established an Instagram account that has grown to over 1,700 followers since 2015. In addition, he has overseen the redesign of the department's website and enhancements in live streaming quality and availability for on-campus events.

Roberts was the chair of the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Sports Information Directors Group from 2017-2019 and has previously served as chair of the NEWMAC's Awards Committee and as a member of the NEWMAC's Strategic Communications Committee. He has presented at ECAC-SIDA Sports Information Workshops in each of the last two summers, focusing on "Spotlighting the Student in Student-Athlete" in 2018, while having the opportunity to present alongside Amy Wilson, Managing Director of Inclusion at the NCAA on "Inclusion in Intercollegiate Athletics" in 2019. In 2017, he worked as a media volunteer for the United States Golf Association at the U.S. Senior Open at Salem Country Club.

Prior to arriving at Wellesley, Roberts spent four years at Pine Manor College in Chestnut Hill, Mass. While at Pine Manor, Roberts served in a variety of roles, including as Assistant Athletic Director and Sports Information Director, Head Volleyball Coach and Assistant Volleyball Coach. Before Pine Manor, Roberts took part in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) internship program. He wrote stories as a website correspondent and also attended the 2010 GNAC Professional Development Seminar in Boston.

A 2010 graduate of Boston University with a double major in Political Science and American Studies, Roberts is a member of ECAC-SIDA and the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). He currently resides in Brighton, Mass.
