Two Wellesley College fall athletic teams recently earned national academic honors. The Blue cross country team and field hockey teams were recognized for their efforts in the classroom for the fall season.

BABSON PARK, Mass. – The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced its 2010 Field Hockey post-season award winners on Tuesday. Wellesley took home two All-Conference awards, as seniors Katie Frett (Hallowell, ME) and Kate Cushing (Danvers, MA) were both honored.

Endicott Hands Field Hockey 3-0 Loss

The Endicott field hockey team celebrated senior day with a 3-0 win over visiting Wellesley College on Tuesday afternoon. The Gulls scored twice in the opening seven minutes and held the Blue without a shot in the opening half to pick up the non-conference victory in the teams final home game of the regular season. Endicott improves to 11-7 overall while Wellesley drops to 5-10 on the season.

Late Goal Pushes MIT Past Wellesley Field Hockey

Katie Kauffman redirected a shot from the top of the circle in the games final minutes to help MIT secure a dramatic, 2-1 win over visiting Wellesley College in New England Womens and Mens Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) field hockey action on Jack Barry Field Tuesday night. The Kauffman goal, along with stellar MIT defense, which limited the Blue to just six shots, helped the Engineers get back in the win column and improve to 14-2 overall and 6-1 in league play. The victory was Techs first over Wellesley (4-9, 2-4 NEWMAC) since 2004.

Wellesley College defender Al Mehan (Stamford, CT) recorded two defensive saves to propel the Blue field hockey team to a 2-1 victory over NEWMAC-rival Mount Holyoke on a warm Saturday afternoon in Wellesley. Both of Mehan's game-saving stops came in the final seven minutes of play, as Wellesley recorded it's first conference victory of the season.

Wesleyan University sophomore Averill Roberto recorded a goal and an assist to lead the visiting Cardinals to a 3-0 victory over Wellesley College in non-conference field hockey action on Wednesday. With the win, Wesleyan remains a perfect 5-0 this season. The loss, their fourth-straight, drops the Blue to 2-4 overall.
