Blue Field Hockey Drops 5-1 Game at Trinity

Trinity senior Christy Bradley (Wellesley, Mass.) scored a hat trick to lead a second half surge for the Trinity College Bantams in a 5-1 win over the Wellesley College Blue in field hockey action tonight on Robin Sheppard Field. Trinity, ranked No. 7 in Div. III, improves to 2-0, while Wellesley dips to 2-2 early in the season.

The Bantams broke a 0-0 tie early in the second half when Bradley knocked in her first goal in the 37th minute. Wellesley senior Sarah Mohtes-Chan (David, Calif.) answered, knotting the game at one apiece, just 45 seconds before Trinity first-year Paige Duke (Dedham, Mass.) would respond with her first career goal, and the eventual game-winner. Trinity would only add to their lead in the half, with two more goals from Bradley, and another off the stick of sophomore Hadley Duncan (Rye, N.Y.).

Senior goalkeeper Sarina Sawyer (Wilmette, Ill.) made 14 saves in the game for the Blue, while Junior Gina Dinallo (West Hartford, Conn.) stopped one of two shots for the win.

Duke and classmate Julia Rivera (Silver Spring, Md.) would tally an assist apiece in the match. Duke now has a team-high three helpers on the season. Bradley's hat trick is the second for Trinity in their first two games this season after junior Payson Sword (Princeton, N.J.) tallied three goals in the home opener against Colby on Saturday. It was déjà vu for Bradley who accomplished the feat a year ago on Sept. 17, 2009, also in a 5-1 win over Wellesley College.

Trinity will visit NESCAC rival Middlebury, ranked No. 10 in the NFHCA Division III National Poll, on Sat., Sept. 18 at 2 p.m. Wellesley also returns to action on Saturday, opening the NEWMAC schedule at Babson at 12:00 p.m.
