Blue Field Hockey on to NCAA Tournament; Earns First Round Bye

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- 2014 NEWMAC regular season and tournament champion Wellesley College field hockey will make its second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship. The Blue have received a first round bye and will play in the second round on Saturday, November 15.

Wellesley will face the winner of Juniata and Gwynedd-Mercy, who are set to square-off in the first round on Wednesday, November 12. Juniata, winners of the Landmark Conference tournament championship, currently stands at 14-5 overall. The Eagles earned the Landmark Conference's automatic bid with a 1-0 double overtime victory over Catholic on Saturday night. Gwynedd-Mercy won its fourth Colonial States Athletic Conference Championship in-a-row on Saturday with a 5-1 victory over Cabrini. The Griffins have an overall record of 15-5.

Wellesley earned the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) automatic qualifier with a thrilling 1-0 victory over Mount Holyoke on Sunday afternoon. Mount Holyoke will also represent the NEWMAC in the NCAA Tournament, as the Lyons were selected at-large and will host Husson in the first round.
