Blue Field Hockey Lands Three on ECAC All-Star Teams; King Named Coach of the Year

WELLESLEY, Mass. — Wellesley College field hockey seniors Nathalie Gruet and Meghan Peterson and junior Anissa Sridhar all earned a place on the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) 2014 Division III New England Region Field Hockey All-Star team. Gruet and Peterson were selected as members of the First Team, while Sridhar earned a Second Team selection. 

In addition, Head Coach Julia King was named the 2014 ECAC Division III New England Field Hockey Coach of the Year.

Gruet powered the Blue with a team-leading 53 points on 21 goals and 11 assists this season to earn a selection as a midfielder on the First Team. In addition to the ECAC All-New England first team honor, the Acton, Mass native was also named a NFHCA first team All-American and the 2104 New England East Region and New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Year. Gruet also earned NFHCA first-team All-Region honors for the third straight season in 2014 after being selected to the NEWMAC first team for the fourth consecutive season. She was recently named the 2014 DIII Woman of the Year nominee for field hockey as announced by THE Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA) presented by Honda.

Peterson, a native of Glastonbury, Conn., adds a first team ECAC All-Star selection to go along with her first All-American honor this season. Peterson, selected as an ECAC First Team choice on Defense, also earned NFHCA All-Region and NEWMAC All-Conference first team selections for the second consecutive year in 2014. The 2014 NEWMAC Tournament Most Outstanding Player guided the Blue to ten shutouts this season, including a 1-0 victory in the NEWMAC Championships Game. Peterson finished the year with 13 points on four goals and five assists.

A junior from Idlerton, Ontario, Sridhar was selected as a midfielder on the ECAC Second Team. Sridhar was a back-to-back NFHCA All-Region selection in 2013 and 2014 before earning her first All-American award in 2014. A member of the NEWMAC All-Conference first-team, Sridhar scored 11 goals and added 10 assists, tallying 32 points for the Blue this season.

King led Wellesley to a 19-3 record this season, setting a new program record for wins in a season. The Blue were 8-0 in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), before winning the conference tournament and securing a berth into the NCAA Tournament. King was named both NEWMAC and NFHCA New England East Region Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year.
