Blue Field Hockey Coasts to 3-0 Win at Clark

WORCESTER, Mass. -- Sophomore Alex Lenart (Princeton Junction, N.J) tallied two goals and an assist, leading the Blue to a dominant 3-0 win over Clark University in the team's first New England Women's and Men's Athletics Conference (NEWMAC) at Granger Field.

Lenart's second and third goals of the season helped the Blue improve to 2-0 overall and 1-0 NEWMAC play. With the loss, Clark drops to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in the conference.

The Blue wasted no time as junior Amy Kate Williams (Greenville, S.C.) scored a quick goal for Wellesley at the 1:58 mark in the first quarter. The goal marked the second of the year for Williams. Lenart was credited with the assist, her second of the season.

Both teams remained tied throughout the second quarter, as sophomore goalkeeper Kyra Deehr-Lewis (Newtown, Pa.) made four huge saves. She made eight total saves in the game and kept Wellesley's lead alive in the second quarter, as the Blue failed to get off a single shot.

After a scoreless third quarter, the Blue once again found its groove early in the fourth. Alex Lenart found the back of the goal just over two minutes into the final quarter and gave Wellesley a 2-0 advantage. It was her first goal of the game and second of the year.

Lenart would not be finished yet, as she tacked on another goal at the 56:49 mark and gave the Blue a comfortable 3-0 lead. The sophomore finished the game with five points, bringing her season total up to eight points in just two games played.

Wellesley will head back home tomorrow Sunday, September 19, for a 2:00 PM non-conference matchup versus Williams College. Clark will remain at home to face UMass-Dartmouth on Tuesday, September 21, at 7:30 PM.
