WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Junior Amy Kate Williams (Greenville, S.C.) scored the game winning goal in overtime as Wellesley downed rival Mount Holyoke 2-1 on Senior Day.

The Blue earn a much needed win in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play, snapping a three-game losing streak and improving to 7-6 overall and 5-2 in the conference. The Lyons fall to 3-9 overall and 2-5 in the NEWMAC.

Mount Holyoke wasted no time, scoring a goal within the first two minutes of the contest. Senior Margaret Robb (Summit, N.J.) made her way towards the goal and fired a strike, giving the Lyons a 1-0 lead. The goal came unassisted and was the seventh of the season for Robb. The Blue would get a good look in the middle of the second quarter, as senior Julia Rappaport (Bala Cynwyd, Pa.) had her shot saved by keeper Rachel Katzenberg (Reistertown, Md.). Katzenberg finished the contest with ten saves. Wellesley would keep the pressure on, and with less than 30 seconds remaining in the half Cass Novello scored the equalizer. The fourth goal of the season for Novello came off an assist by Williams. The Lyons would take one more shot at the end of the half, but Kyra Deehr-Lewis (Newtown, Penn.) made the save.

Both teams played a great defensive third quarter, as only two total shots were attempted and both saved by Katzenberg. In the fourth period, Alex Lenart (Princeton Junction, N.J.) and Novello nearly put the Blue ahead, but both shots by the players were saved. The best opportunity for Mount Holyoke came at the 58:11 mark, as Robb earned a penalty stroke for the Lyons. With the game all tied up, Robb fired the shot but Deehr-Lewis made a quick move to her right and recorded the save. Mount Holyoke would put up one more shot that went wide and the game was headed to overtime.

The Lyons fired up the first shot in the overtime period, but Robb missed just wide and the Blue retained possession. Just under two minutes later, Williams scored an unassisted  game-winning goal and led Wellesley to a massive NEWMAC victory. The Blue outshot Mount Holyoke 20-10 in the match and Deehr-Lewis totaled three saves.

The Blue field hockey team will travel to UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday, October 26, for a non-conference matchup. Mount Holyoke will host NEWMAC opponent Wheaton College on Saturday, October 30, at 1:00 PM.
