SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Sophomore Alex Lenart (Princeton Junction, N.J.) and junior Keller Gardner (Falmouth, Maine) each scored in a 2-1 win on the road over Springfield College on Saturday.

The Blue close out the 2021 regular season on a three game winning streak and finish 9-6 overall. With the win over Springfield, Wellesley places third in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) with a closing record of 6-2. Springfield finishes the season at 5-12 overall and 1-7 in the conference.

Blue keeper Kyra Deehr-Lewis (Newtown, Penn.) made two early saves in the first period to keep the game scoreless. After the big saves, Lenart broke free and scored the first goal of the game for Wellesley at the 8:32 mark. The 10th goal of the year for the sophomore gave Wellesley a 1-0 lead after the first quarter. The Pride would score a goal of its own with the clock winding down in the second quarter. After a penalty corner, Grace Majka (Simsbury, Conn.) took a pass from Carly Torrance (Concord, N.H.) and netted the equalizer.

With the game still tied after three quarters and the clock winding down, Gardner scored the game winner off a pass from Cass Novello (Scotch Plains, N.J.). The junior, who scored two goals in the previous match, scored her sixth goal this year and once again led the Blue to victory.

Deehr-Lewis finished with six saves, bringing her total to 113 for the regular season. Wellesley doubled up the Pride with eight penalty corners. Springfield fired up ten total shots and Wellesley nine.

Up next, Wellesley will host a NEWMAC playoff game on Tuesday, November 2 at Butler Stadium.
