WELLESLEY, Mass. - A fourth quarter goal by sophomore Rose Weseley (New York, N.Y.) lifted Wellesley College field hockey past Salve Regina, 3-2, on Wednesday at Butler Stadium.

Weseley had a goal and two assists, senior Lindsay Strong (Concord, Mass.) had a goal and an assist, and junior River Schiff added a goal for the Blue (6-7). Senior Kailyn McCue (Spencer, Mass.) and junior Shannon Kennedy (Royersford, Pa.) scored the goals for the Seahawks (4-8). The Blue utilized a 22-2 advantage in penalty corners and a 21-9 advantage in shots to keep the offensive pressure on the Seahawks.

Schiff got the offense going early for Wellesley, knocking a pass by Weseley out of the air and into the right corner of the cage. The goal was Schiff's sixth of the season.

Kennedy tied the game up for Salve Regina in the second period, connecting on a hard shot from the top of the circle assisted by sophomore Hana Bevilacqua (West Barnstable, Mass.).

Strong gave the Blue the lead back early in the third, using a penalty corner and a pass by Weseley to fire a rocket past the Seahawks and into the goal. Only twenty seconds later a penalty shot opportunity for the Seahawks was tucked into the left corner of the cage by McCue, tying the game at 2-2.

Early in the fourth, Weseley ripped a shot from the top left that stayed just inside the post to give Wellesley a 3-2 lead that they held onto for the rest of the game. Strong assisted on the play.

Wellesley stays at home for a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game against MIT at 12:00 PM on Saturday. The Seahawks host Nichols on Saturday at 12:00 PM.
