Wellesley's Strong Named Nominee for NEWMAC Student-Athlete of the Year Award

WESTWOOD, Mass. - Wellesley field hockey's Lindsay Strong (Concord, Mass.) has been named a nominee for the annual NEWMAC Student-Athlete of the Year Award. The NEWMAC announced the ten women's sport institutional nominees on Wednesday. The Student-Athlete of the Year Award focuses on the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, service and leadership.

Strong is a 2023 graduate of Wellesley College, earning a degree in Mathematics with a minor in Computer Science, boasting a 3.80 GPA. Strong is a three-time NEWMAC Academic All-Conference honoree and a three-time member of the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) National Academic Squad.

As a field hockey student-athlete, Strong was a 2021 NFHCA Third Team All-American selection, and a two-time All-Region honoree. She was a NEWMAC first-team All-Conference selection in 2021 and 2022. She also received the 2023 Barbara Barnes Hauptfuhrer '49 Scholar-Athlete Award, which is awarded annually to the Wellesley College senior who best combines excellence in scholarship, leadership, sportsmanship and athletic achievement.

Off the field, Strong served on Wellesley's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). She interned for College Sports Evaluation, an event technology service providing data and analytics for athlete performance evaluation. She also worked as an athletic training aide, assisting Wellesley athletic trainers in providing treatment for student-athletes.

A selection committee made up of athletic directors, Senior Woman Administrators, Sports Information Directors and Athletics Diversity and Inclusion Designees will review all nominees on an annual basis and select the NEWMAC's honorees. The conference office will announce the 2022-2023 NEWMAC Student-Athlete of the Year recipient(s) on Wednesday, July 26.

The recipients of the 2022-2023 awards will become the NEWMAC's nominees for the Division III Commissioners Association Student-Athlete of the Year award and the NCAA Woman of the Year award.

NEWMAC Announces Ten Women's Sport Nominees for Student-Athlete of the Year Award


The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference is an association of 11 selective academic institutions: Babson College, Clark University, U.S Coast Guard Academy, Emerson College, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, Springfield College, Wellesley College, Wheaton College, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute, that are committed to providing high quality competitive athletic opportunities for student-athletes within an educational and respectful environment that embodies the NCAA Division III Philosophy. The conference also partners with five Associate Members: Catholic University of America (Football), Norwich University (Football), Simmons College (Rowing), and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (Football), while sponsoring 20 sports. Salve Regina University will become the conferences 12th core member effective July 1, 2023, while N.Y. Maritime will be joining as an Associate Member in football.
