FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – Seniors Cassidy Novello (Scotch Plains, N.J.) and River Schiff (Potomac, Md.) each scored to lead Wellesley College field hockey to a 2-1 win at Framingham State on Friday at Maple Street Field.

Novello and Schiff provided the offense for the Blue (1-0) while classmate Alex Lenart (Princeton Junction, N.J.) picked up an assist. Goalkeeper Kyra Deehr-Lewis (Newtown, Pa.) stopped a trio of shots in net for Wellesley. Wellesley outshot FSU 18-5, with the Blue taking 11 penalty corners to the Rams' one.

Senior Angelina Serra (North Chelmsford, Mass.) knocked home the lone goal for the Rams (0-1) while grad student Isabella Kondi (Canaan, N.H.) and senior Brandi Core (Medway, Mass.) assisted on the play. First year keeper Kaitlyn Tello (Nashua, N.H.) stopped eight shots for FSU.

Novello wasted no time and knocked one into the cage after a scramble in front of the net within the first ninety seconds of the game for Wellesley. The rest of the period was scoreless, though the Blue outshot Framingham, 5-0. Serra converted on a penalty corner to help the Rams draw even at one apiece five minutes into the second quarter, and the score remained tied through halftime.

Schiff gave Wellesley the lead in the latter stages of the third, putting the ball in the cage off of a pass from Lenart. Though Wellesley took six penalty corners in the fourth, neither team scored with the Blue locking up its first win of the season, 2-1.

Up next, Wellesley will host its home opener against Saint Joseph's (Maine) on Sunday at 12:00 PM. Framingham State travels to Lasell on Monday for a 3:00 PM game.
