Tufts Tops Wellesley Field Hockey, 5-0

MEDFORD, Mass. – Junior Kylie Rosenquest (Carmel, N.Y.) and senior Andrea DelGuidice (Bedford, N.H.) each scored a pair of goals to lead Tufts University to a 5-0 non-conference victory over Wellesley College field hockey on Wednesday evening at Ounjian Field.

The Jumbos (1-0) opened the season with a commanding performance, outshooting the Blue, 38-1 while earning 12 penalty corners. Senior goalkeeper Kyra Deehr-Lewis (Newtown, Pa.) finished with a career-high 19 saves in the first setback of the season for Wellesley (2-1). Wellesley sophomore Sophia Sohigian (Wilmette, Ill.) recorded a defensive save for the Blue in the fourth quarter.

Rosenquest scored both of her goals in the first quarter, putting the Jumbos up 2-0 with goals at the 2:08 and 13:09 mark of the first. Senior Rachel Scrivanich (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J.) set up the first Tufts goal and junior Mia D'Angelo (Westwood, Mass.) picked up an assist on the second.

Tufts extended its lead to 3-0 in the second quarter when DelGuidice scored for the first time on an assist from sophomore Gabby Sousa (West Roxbury, Mass.). The duo would also combine for the fifth and final Tufts goal in the fourth quarter. Junior Claire Gavin (Durham, Conn.) scored the fourth Tufts goal with first year Katarina Villa (Monmouth Beach, N.J.) picking up an assist on the play.

Sophomore Lydia Eastburn (New Hope, Pa.) made one stop in the cage for the Jumbos to earn the victory (1-0).

Wellesley returns home on Saturday to welcome Husson to Butler Stadium at 12:00 PM. The Jumbos travel to Conn. College to play at the same time on Saturday.
