BRUNSWICK, Maine – Sophomore Mackay Bommer (Rye, N.Y.) scored a pair of goals to lift No. 16 Bowdoin to a 3-0 win over Wellesley College field hockey in a non-conference game on Tuesday evening at Howard F. Ryan Field.

Bommer put the Polar Bears (4-1 Overall) on the board 44 seconds into the second quarter. Senior Georgie Coetzer (Johannesburg, South Africa) took the initial shot on a penalty corner and Wellesley goalie Kyra Deehr-Lewis (Newtown, Pa.) made a save on the initial bid. Sophomore Andrea DiTeodoro (New Canaan, Conn.) collected the rebound on the left side and drove a shot toward the net that Bommer tipped in for the lead.

Bommer scored the team's second goal in the 36th minute. Junior Maya Malenfant (Weston, Mass.) assisted on the play.

Senior Sophia Rosati (Newburyport, Mass.) scored the third goal for Bowdoin in the final seconds of the third quarter. Senior Faith Jennings (Ghent, N.Y.) won the ball off a defender and worked back to the circle. Jennings crossed the ball from the left side and Rosati backhanded a deflection in.

Deehr-Lewis saved 18 shots for the Blue (4-3 Overall, 1-0 NEWMAC). Bowdoin took 26 shots and 12 penalty corners while not allowing Wellesley to attempt a shot.

Wellesley hosts NEWMAC rival Mount Holyoke as part of #Earn The W Day on Friday, September 22 at 7:00 PM. The Polar Bears travel to Middlebury on Saturday for a NESCAC game at 11:00 AM.
