Wellesley Field Hockey Rallies to Defeat Salve Regina, 3-2

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Two fourth quarter goals gave Wellesley College field hockey (7-3 Overall, 3-0 NEWMAC) a 3-2 victory over Salve Regina on Saturday at Butler Stadium to help the Blue remain undefeated in NEWMAC play.   

Trailing 2-1 in the fourth quarter, Wellesley first year Alex Butulis (Raleigh, N.C.) scored to tie the game up. Four minutes later, classmate Marin Kriner (Woodstock, Md.) connected on her first career goal from the right side of the arc off of a pass from junior Camille Newman (New York City, N.Y.).

Senior Shannon Kennedy (Royersford, Pa.) scored goals for the Seahawks (5-3 Overall, 1-2 NEWMAC) in the second and third quarters. Sophomore Georgia Costello (North Easton, Mass.) assisted on Kennedy's first goal.

Senior River Schiff (Potomac, Md.) tied the score up at 1-1 for Wellesley in the third quarter with a high flick shot that fell perfectly into the left corner of the cage.

Salve Regina took 22 shots to Wellesley's 19, while the Blue had three more penalty corners (11) than the Seahawks (8). Senior goalie Kyra Deehr-Lewis (Newtown, Pa.) made 12 saves for the Blue while junior Bryn Protheroe (Glastonbury, Conn.) sent back nine shots for Salve Regina.

Both teams next play on Tuesday, October 3 with Wellesley traveling to MIT at 6:00 PM and Salve Regina facing Wheaton at home for a 6:30 game.
