Blue Field Hockey Drops Game to MIT

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 22 MIT scored in all four quarters to earn a 5-0 NEWMAC win over Wellesley College field hockey on Tuesday night at Jack Barry Field. 

The Engineers (8-3 Overall, 4-0 NEWMAC) took a 1-0 lead just over 10 minutes into the game when junior Eva Oppenheim (Tiburon, Calif.) picked off a Wellesley pass and fired an open shot into the cage.

MIT doubled the score early in the second quarter when first year Janie Thomas (Houston, Texas) knocked in a deflected ball assisted by sophomore Bailey McIntyre (Concord, Mass.).

First year Ingrid Tomovski (Bosch en Duin, Netherlands) made it 3-0 for MIT in the third quarter with a shot from the top of the circle assisted by junior Alice Zehner (Gladwyne, Pa.).

Graduate student Paige Forester (Glencoe, Ill.) tacked on two more goals for the Engineers in the fourth quarter with Oppenheim and Thomas each earning an assist.

Senior goalkeeper Kyra Deehr-Lewis (Newtown, Pa.) made 12 saves for the Blue (7-4 Overall, 3-1 NEWMAC) while first year Maeve Zimmer (Rockville, Md.) stopped five shots for MIT.

Both teams are on the road on Saturday, October 7. Wellesley takes on Springfield at 1:00 PM and MIT plays at WPI at 11:00 AM.
