Wellesley Field Hockey Earns Decisive Win over Clark, 4-1

WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior River Schiff (Potomac, Md.), junior Sara Maniscalco (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) and first year Katie Golla (Oak Park, Ill.) each had a goal and an assist to propel Wellesley College field hockey to a 4-1 NEWMAC victory against Clark on Saturday at Granger Athletic Complex.

In addition to the trio, senior Cassidy Novello (Scotch Plains, N.J.) scored a 13th career goal for the Blue (8-8 Overall, 4-4 NEWMAC), sophomore Sophia Sohigian (Wilmette, Ill.) earned an assist, and senior goalie Kyra Deehr-Lewis (Newtown, Pa.) sent back five shots.

Sophomore Fionnuala Gormley (Mattapoisett, Mass.) scored the lone goal for the Cougars (4-11 Overall, 1-7 NEWMAC) on a shot setup by grad student Abbe Cravinho (Bellow Falls, Vt.).

Golla gave Wellesley an early lead on a goal before Gormley tied the game at 1-1 in the opening minute of the second quarter. Just before halftime, Schiff connected on an 11th career goal with a shot assisted by Maniscalco. 

Maniscalco added a goal of her own in the third quarter, helped by a pass from Sohigian. Novello put the fourth tally on the board for the Blue in the fourth quarter, and Schiff recorded the assist.

Clark outshot Wellesley 14-8, and the Cougars took nine penalty corners while the Blue took seven. Sophomore Alexandra Cacciapaglia (Ridgefield, Conn.) made three saves in the cage for Clark.

The Blue are back in action on Saturday, October 28, when the team hosts senior day against WPI at 1:00 PM. The Cougars host UMass Dartmouth in a non-conference game on Tuesday, October 24 at 7:00 PM.
