Wellesley Softball Splits With Lesley

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Wellesley College softball team grabbed a split against Lesley University on Wednesday afternoon. Lesley took game one, 10-4, while the Blue snagged game two, 8-3. Wellesley's season mark now stands at 8-10, while Lesley is 8-7.

Game one featured 26 total hits, with Lesley taking the 10-4 victory. Molly Sarson pounded out four hits, including an RBI, while Emily Mangiaratti was 2-4 with two runs batted in. Jennifer Dorval earned the victory in the circle for the Lynx, throwing all seven, scattering 12 hits and allowing three earned runs.

Wellesley was led by Lauren Goldfarb who went 3-4, while Jayne Ellis added two hits. Goldfarb took the loss, giving up four runs in one and third innings.

Lesley built an 8-3 advantage after three frames and never looked back. The Lynx tallied 14 hits, while taking advantage of three Wellesley errors in route to the win. 

The Blue rebounded in game two, scoring three runs in the first and three more in the third for a 6-0 lead. The Lynx rallied in the top of the fifth, narrowing the gap to 6-3, but Wellesley tallied two more in the bottom half of the inning to secure the 8-3 win in a darkness-shortened six-inning game.

Allison Fountain recorded two hits for Lesley, while Mangiati and Jenna Fralick knocked in one run a piece. Cassandra Knox was saddled with the loss, giving up seven hits and six runs in four innings of work.

For the Blue, Mariah Philips tallied two hits and three runs batted in, while Ellis added three hits and two RBI. Sarah Schwartzmeyer got the win, scattering seven hits across six innings as she pushed her record to 3-1 on the season.

Wellesley is back in action at Babson on Friday afternoon, with a NEWMAC doubleheader at 3:00pm. Lesley returns to the field on Saturday at Newbury, playing an NECC doubleheader beginning at 12:00pm.
