Softball's Ashtyn Coleman Earns National Player of the Week Honors

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Wellesley College rookie softball player Ashtyn Coleman (Scottsdale, AZ/Chaparral HS) completed a sweep of national, regional and conference weekly awards by being named the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III National Player of the Week.

Coleman's national mention marked the first time in program history that the Blue earned national Player of the Week honors. She was also named Player of the Week by the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) and the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC).

Coleman was unstoppable at the plate in a 7-0 week for Wellesley, which saw the Blue clinch the NEWMAC Regular Season title. The first-year hit a blistering .700 (14-20) with three HR and 11 RBI. Coleman hit safely in all seven games for the Blue, recording multiple hits in four of seven contests.

For the week, Coleman recorded an on-base percentage of .786, while carrying a staggering 1.500 slugging percentage. The catcher racked up three doubles, two triples and seven walks, while striking out just once in 26 plate appearances.

This season, Coleman leads the Blue with a .462 batting average and 12 doubles, and is in the midst of an 11-game hitting streak. Her batting average ranks her second in the conference and she is also in the top-seven in the NEWMAC in doubles, triples, homeruns, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage.

Wellesley softball is 24-9 overall this season, and completed the NEWMAC regular season with a mark of 15-3. The Blue earned the #1 seed in the upcoming conference tournament and will host the NEWMAC tournament beginning on Friday, April 25th.
