No. 6 Wellesley Softball to Face No. 3 Babson in NEWMAC Tournament Opener

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) released the seeds for the 2019 NEWMAC Softball Championship. No. 6 Wellesley college will face No. 3 Babson College on day one of the tournament, Wednesday, May 1, at 2:30 PM at MIT's Briggs Field. 

Wellesley last appeared in the NEWMAC Tournament in 2017, going 1-2 with a victory over Wheaton. The Blue last faced Babson in the 2016 NEWMAC Tournament, dropping a 5-2 decision in the tournament opener before earning a 9-5 win on day two of the tournament.

Babson earned the No. 3 seed with a 14-4 conference record. The winner of the Wellesley vs. Babson game will advance to play No. 2 MIT at 4:30 PM. MIT earned hosting rights on day one as the No. 2 seed, finishing the regular season at 15-2-1.

WPI (16-2) clinched the top seed as well as the regular season title and has earned hosting rights heading into the opening day. No. 4 Springfield (11-7) will play No. 5 Emerson (9-9) at WPI on day one, with the winner squaring-off with WPI in the afternoon.
