WALTHAM, Mass. – The Wellesley College softball team dropped both games in a non-conference doubleheader at Brandeis on Wednesday.

Game 1 | Wellesley 1, Brandeis 7 | Final

The Blue provided the first scoring threat of the contest after gathering a runner in scoring position in the top of the second. Senior Hayley Moniz (Westfield, Mass.) drew a walk and classmate Ingrid Hsu (San Ramon, Calif.) bunted her over. Moniz was left stranded at second and Blue went down scoreless. Brandeis took advantage of the missed opportunity and scored two in the bottom half of the inning. The Judges would add a third run the following inning after Alex Cohen (West Palm Beach, Fla.) recorded an RBI single. The game was busted open in the fifth after Amidori Anderson (Sparks, Nev.) blasted a three-run home run and gave Brandeis a 7-0 lead. Wellesley was able to add a in the sixth after Elli DeCleene (North Reading, Mass.) reached on an error by the Brandeis third baseman and Charis Chung (San Gabriel, Calif.) came around to score. The Blue strung a pair of hits together in the seventh, but were unable to do any damage and fell 7-1 in game one.

Game 2 | Wellesley 0, Brandeis 4 | Final

The Judges got a stellar performance on the mound from Chandra Penton (Newton, Mass.) who dealt six scoreless innings. After dealing 1.2 innings of no-run ball in game one, sophomore Emma Slibeck (New York, N.Y) made the start in game two and went 2.2 innings allowing three earned. Junior Marisa Sgambati (Scottsdale, Ariz.) came into relief and dealt 3.1 innings and struck out two.

The Judges once again attacked in the second inning after Anderson tripled and Jamie Pippin (Redmond, Wash.) singled her home. The lead would be extended in the third as Anderson remained hot at the plate and brought home two runs with a single up the middle. The fourth and final run of the game was recorded in the fifth off a Haley Nash (Delmar, N.Y.) home run to center. Chung, DeCleene, Holly Chin (Newton, Mass.), and Marisa Hensch (Carlsbad, Calif.) all recorded a hit in the loss.

The Blue return to New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play with a pair of games versus Wheaton on Friday, April 15 at 3:00 and 5:00 PM. Brandeis will remain at home to host Case Western Reserve University on Friday at 3:00 PM.
