SEGUIN, Texas - Wellesley College softball opened their spring break trip with a pair of losses to No. 4 Texas Lutheran on Monday at Ed Kruse Stadium.

Sophomore Lauren Young (Fresno, Calif.) threw a gem in game one to keep the Blue (0-5-1) in the game against their ranked opponents. Junior Sydney Ouellette (Corpus Christi, Texas) tossed a complete game shutout in game one for the Bulldogs (19-3).

Game 1 | Texas Lutheran 1, Wellesley 0 | Final

Young and Ouellette engaged in a pitchers duel with neither allowing a run in the first six innings. While Texas Lutheran was able to get runners on base, Young's pitching combined with strong Blue fielding helped Wellesley strand eight TLU runners on base.

In the top of the seventh first year Emeline Gaunce (Los Altos, Calif.) had her second hit of the game for the Blue and got into scoring position before TLU stopped the effort. A single to left field from first year Kloee Wells (Dayton, Texas) drove in the only run of the game for the Bulldogs to walk off in the bottom of the seventh.

Young allowed only five hits with a pair of K's for the Blue in a standout performance while Ouellette struck out one in the complete game shutout.

Game 2 | Texas Lutheran 9, Wellesley 0 | Final (5 Innings)

Senior Marisa Sgambati (Scottsdale, Ariz.) took the circle for Wellesley opposite Texas Lutheran senior Amanda White (Lockhart, Texas).

The Bulldogs scored four runs in the bottom of the second, capitalizing on a trio of Wellesley errors to take a lead. TLU grabbed another run in the bottom of the third when first year Caelee Clark (Montgomery, Texas) grounded in a run before Sgambati struck out a batter with the bases loaded to get out of a jam.

The Bulldogs walked in a pair of runs in the latter half of the fourth before senior Bailey Hudgeons (Dripping Springs, Texas) whacked a two-run double to bring the  lead to 9-0.

Sgambati and White each threw three innings with White striking out a trio of batters. The Blue were held to only one hit while the Bulldogs had five hits in addition to drawing eight walks.

The Blue continue their Lone Star State swing tomorrow with 6:00 and 8:00 PM EST games at Trinity (Texas). The Bulldogs host DePauw on Wednesday starting at at 5:00 PM EST.
