SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS - A seventh inning comeback in game two helped Wellesley College softball split their two games with Trinity (Texas) on Tuesday at Trinity Softball Field.

Junior Marina Delaluna (Concord, Calif.) had a pair of RBIs for the Tigers (5-19) while junior pitcher Bella Gutierrez (Devine, Texas) threw a complete game shutout for the Tigers in game one.

Sophomore Charis Chung (San Gabriel, Calif.) and first year Elli DeCleene (North Reading, Mass.) combined for three seventh inning RBIs in game two to propel the Blue (1-6-1) to their first win of the season.

Game 1 | Trinity 8, Wellesley 0 | Final (5 Innings)

The Tigers spaced out their runs while limiting the Blue to just one hit. Delaluna doubled in a run to start the scoring while first year Carsyn Lee (Flower Mound, Texas) later drove Delaluna in.

After tacking on a third run in the second inning the Tigers scored three in the bottom of the third. First year Jordan Arce (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) smacked an RBI triple while junior Jordyn Williams (Clayton, Calif.) drove in a run with a double.

Trinity finished the 8-0 victory in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI triple from sophomore Alexa Saucedo (Harlingen, Texas).

Junior Emma Slibeck (New York, N.Y.) struck out one over three innings for Wellesley. Trinity notched 11 hits while senior Ingrid Hsu (San Ramon, Calif.) had the lone base hit for the Blue.

Game 2 | Wellesley 8, Trinity 7 | Final

Game two began with Delaluna knocking in a run with a double, before the Tigers scored two more runs in the bottom of the second.

Wellesley cut the deficit to 3-1 in the top of the third when junior Julz Vargas (Los Angeles, Calif.) earned an RBI that scored classmate Aniko Alexander (Gaithersburg, Md.). A Wellesley error allowed the Tigers to bring the game to 5-1 by the end of the fourth.

Senior Marisa Sgambati (Scottsdale, Ariz.) drove in a run in the sixth with a single up the middle before sophomore Lauren Young (Fresno, Texas) scored on a passed ball to trim the Trinity lead to 5-3.

Wellesley tied the game at 5-5 in the seventh when a passed ball and a throwing miscue brought in two runs for the Blue. Chung broke the tie with an RBI single to left center field followed by another two run scoring on a single from DeCleene to give the Blue an 8-5 lead. Despite two late RBI doubles for the Tigers, the Blue closed out an 8-7 win.

Young threw five innings with four strikeouts for the Blue while senior Emory Boettcher (Fredericksburg, Texas) struck out five for the Tigers. Wellesley's bats came alive with nine hits to Trinity's eight.

The Blue wrap up their Texas trip tomorrow with 5:00 and 7:00 PM EST games at Schreiner while the Tigers host DePauw on Thursday at 8:00 PM EST.
