WELLESLEY, Mass. - Emerson earned a pair of New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) wins over Wellesley College softball on Friday.

Prior to the game the Blue recognized seniors Ingrid Hsu (San Ramon, Calif.) and Marisa Sgambati (Scottsdale, Ariz.) for their contributions to the Wellesley softball program.

Junior Makenzie Killough (Attleboro, Mass.) had four RBIs including a three-run triple for the Lions (18-18 Overall, 6-12 NEWMAC) in game one while sophomore Jessica Gomez (West Chester, Pa.) pitched a complete game shutout in game two.

First year Andrea Delgado (Miami, Fla.) scored a pair of runs for the Blue (8-21-1 Overall, 4-10 NEWMAC) and classmate Emeline Gaunce (Los Altos, Calif.) had four hits over the two games.

Game 1 | Emerson 7, Wellesley 2 | Final

A three-run first inning gave the Lions a lead they would never relinquish in game one.

Sophomore Sam Zannotti (Dudley, Mass.) scored the first run for Emerson on a wild pitch. Killough added a second run on a single to left center before scoring on a sacrifice fly from sophomore Grace Beaulieu (Rochester, N.H.) to give the Lions a 3-0 lead after the top of the first.

The Blue made the game 3-1 in the bottom of the first when first year Chiara Lundin (Piedmont, Calif.) brought home Delgado with a single up the middle. Wellesley further trimmed Emerson's lead to 3-2 in the third when Gaunce singled through the left side to score Delgado.

In the top of the fifth junior Claire Overton (Wayne, Pa.) doubled home a run for the Lions. Emerson loaded the bases in the top of the seventh, leading to Killough cracking a triple down the right field line to bring in three runs.

First year Kit Zenga (Los Angeles, Calif.) earned the win for the Lions with five innings while allowing eight hits. Gomez tossed two clean innings to earn the save. Sgambati pitched all seven innings for the Blue, allowing eight hits.

Game 2 | Emerson 1, Wellesley 0 | Final

Gomez and Wellesley sophomore Lauren Young (Fresno, Calif.) engaged in a pitcher's duel in game two, with the Lions scoring the lone run in the fifth. Gomez and Young both allowed six hits and two walks, with Young striking out a trio of hitters.

Strong pitching and fielding was the story for most of game two, with both teams stranding opposing runners on base and inducing pop outs and ground outs.

The Lions broke the stalemate in the top of the fifth when Zenga singled to the left side to drive in Beaulieu.

While the Blue were able to get junior Parker Phillips (River Forest, Ill.) to third in the bottom of the seventh, Gomez forced a ground out from Sgambati to finish the game with the shutout intact.

The Blue conclude their regular season tomorrow with a 12:00 & 2:00 PM doubleheader at WPI.
