Wellesley Softball Lands 12 on Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete Team

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced its Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors for the 2022-23 academic year on Tuesday. Among the recipients were 12 members of the Wellesley College softball team. Wellesley softball compiled a 3.64 GPA as a team for the 2022-23 academic year.

Leading the way for the Blue were seniors Marisa Sgambati (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and Ingrid Hsu (San Ramon, Calif.) who both earned individual Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors. Also receiving recognition were juniors Aniko Alexander (Gaithersburg, Md.), Elli DeCleene (North Reading, Mass.), Parker Phillips (River Forest, Ill.), Chloe Theriault (Peoria, Ariz.), and Julz Vargas (Los Angeles, Calif.).

Sophomores Kate Liston (Boulder, Colo.), Peytin Penny (Louisville, Ky.) and Lauren Young (Fresno, Calif.) all earned their first Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete award as did first years Andrea Delgado (Miami, Fla.) and Chiara Lundin (Piedmont, Calif.).

A total of 8,297 student-athletes received the honor, including 2,369 NCAA Division III  student-athletes. The rankings and honors recognize the academic prowess of softball teams across the Association's membership categories. Team GPAs and scholar-athletes are submitted by member head coaches.

Celebrating 40 years in 2023, the NFCA (National Fastpitch Coaches Association) is the professional organization for fastpitch softball coaches. Known for its highly-regarded Awards Program, the NFCA also educates and supports softball coaches on a variety of different levels: from NFCA podcasts to a comprehensive drills database, to in-person events and a National Convention.
