Blue Basketball Opens 2010-11 Season with 75-35 Win Over Bryn Mawr

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- The Wellesley College basketball team opened the 2010-11 season and the 2010 Seven Sisters Basketball Classic with a 75-35 victory over Bryn Mawr College on Saturday in South Hadley.  The game was the season opener for both squads.

Wellesley sophomore Becca Kimball lead all scorers with 28 points, shooting 73% on the day.  Classmate Malia Maier had a solid all-around performance with 13 points, six assists and four steals, while Ashleigh Sargent posted 10 points and two blocks.  Rookies Katie Shulenberger and Leslie Leong each recorded seven points in their collegiate debuts, with Shulenberger also pulling down a team-high six rebounds.

Bryn Mawr was paced by 13 points from Lindsey Darvin, while Jackie Handy added six points and 10 rebounds, and Rudy Vanzin recorded five points, 11 rebounds.

Wellesley jumped out to an early lead, and never looked back.  The Blue built a 52-11 first-half advantage, paced by a 65% shooting percentage and 21 points from Kimball.  In the second half, Wellesley's lead never dipped below 40 points, as the Blue cruised to the 75-35 victory. 

The Blue return to action tomorrow in the final game of the final Seven Sisters Basketball Tournament.  Wellesley takes on Agnes Scott College, playing at 10:00am.
