Blue Fall to Trinity at Bowdoin Classic; Kimball Named All-Tournament

BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The Wellesley College basketball team dropped their second game at the Bowdoin Classic, a 62-47 setback against Trinity College.  The loss drops the Blue to 7-3 overall, while the Bantams improve to 9-3.

Trinity used a 14-0 run to open the second half and held off Wellesley in a 15-point victory. The Bantams led by nine at halftime and extended their advantage to 23 points before a furious comeback by the Blue cut the lead to single digits midway through the period. But Trinity, behind 15 points from Ciarlegio, was able to stem the tide.

For Trinity, Kaitlin Ciarleglio added five assists and four steals while Kristen Fahey totaled 11 points and six steals. Michelle Royals rounded out the Bantam offense with 10 points and five assists.

Wellesley was led by 18 points from Becca Kimball and 13 points and eight rebounds from Leslie Leong.  Also for the Blue, Ashleigh Sargent and Malia Maier each recorded six points, with Maier picking up a team-high five steals.

Bowdoin and Trinity both carded 2-0 records at the Classic to share the crown. Bowdoin's Nicole Coombes and Trinity's Kaitlin Ciarleglio were named Co-Most Valuable Players of the tournament and were joined on the All-Classic team by Michelle Royals (Trinity), Katie Bergeron (Bowdoin) Megan Grondin (Clark) and Kimball (Wellesley).

Wellesley will now return to its NEWMAC slate, traveling to Smith College on Wednesday evening at 7:00pm.
