Blue Basketball's Malia Maier Named First-Team All-Conference

WELLESLEY, Mass.-- The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced the 2013 Women's Basketball post-season award winners on Tuesday, with Wellesley senior Malia Maier representing the Blue on the All-Conference first team.

Maier, a four-year starter for Wellesley, makes her third appearance on the All-Conference team, previously earning second team honors in her sophomore and junior years. She ranks top in the NEWMAC in both assists (5.1) and steals (4.74) per game and is second on Wellesley in points per game (9.0).

In her career, Maier has led Wellesley in assists and steals in each of her four seasons in Blue, while also leading the team in scoring as a sophomore. She will graduate as the school's all-time leader in assists and steals and is currently ninth on the all-time scoring list.

In addition to her school records, Maier has ranked in the top-five in steals among all of NCAA Division III in each of the past four years. This season she is ranked #1 in the nation in steals per game and 22nd in the nation in assists per game. Maier is also eighth all-time in Division III with 447 career steals.

After finishing the regular season ranked third overall in the NEWMAC, the Blue made a run to the championship game of the conference tournament, before falling to five-time defending champion, Babson. The team, currently 15-10, will host the first round of the upcoming ECAC New England Tournament on Wednesday. The Blue will take on Salve Regina at 7:00pm.
