Blue Basketball's Leong Named NEWMAC Player of the Week

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Wellesley College senior Leslie Leong was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the period ending February 23rd. This is the second weekly honor for Leong this season.  

Leong averaged 17.5 points, 11.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists, and only 2.5 turnovers in a 2-0 week for the Blue. Opening the week at league-leading Wheaton, Leong recorded a double-double with 20 points and 11 boards to lead Wellesley to a 54-52 victory. She was 7-13 from the field and also added a pair of steals in the victory. Closing out the week, Leong recorded a triple-double in a win over Mount Holyoke, tallying 15 points, 12 rebounds, and a career-best 11 assists.

For the week, the senior shot 50% from the field (11-22) and 40% from beyond the arc (4-10). 

Leong currently leads the Blue in scoring with 14.3 points per game. She is also tops on the team in rebounding (7.3/g), assists (3.1/g) and steals 2.6). 

Wellesley has earned the fourth seed in the upcoming NEWMAC Tournament. The Blue will host fifth-seeded Babson College on Wednesday at 7:00pm in a Quarterfinal game.
