Wellesley Basketball Set for NEWMAC Tournament

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Wellesley College basketball team will open the 2014 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament on Wednesday.

Wellesley earned the number four seed in the tournament, finishing the NEWMAC regular season with a 13-7 record. The Blue will host a Quarterfinal game on Wednesday at 7:00pm, taking on fifth-seeded Babson College.

The Blue came away with wins in both of the team's regular season match-ups. Wellesley nabbed a 40-36 win at Babson on December 4
th and then won a 55-45 game at home on January 29th.

For the year, Wellesley is led by two-time NEWMAC Player of the Week,
Leslie Leong. The senior has recorded team-leading totals of 14.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 2.6 steals per game. Junior Morgyne Weaver is second on the team in scoring (11.0) and rebounding (5.7), while also shooting 80% from the charity stripe. Also for the Blue, junior Natalie Anderson is averaging 7.8 points per game, while senior Katie Shulenberger has added averages of 6.2 points and 4.5 rebounds.

For Babson, sophomore Linnett Graber leads the way with 11.7 points per game, while also pulling down an average of 6.0 rebounds per game. First-year Giovanna Pickering averages 9.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game, while classmate Jennifer Narlee leads the team with 7.7 rebounds per contest.

The winner of the Wellesley-Babson game will play top-seeded Smith College on Saturday in the NEWMAC Semifinals at Smith. Wellesley has split with the Pioneers this season.
