D3Hoops Names Leong First Team All-Region
WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Wellesley College senior basketball player Leslie Leong has been named first-team All-Region by d3hoops.com. This is the first regional award for a Blue basketball player since 2005.
Leong was one of five first-team All-Region selections in the Northeast region, which represents the largest number of schools in Division III women's basketball. She was also one of just two NEWMAC players to make the All-Region team and the only NEWMAC player on the first team.
The 2014 NEWMAC Player of the Year, Leong is also a two-time NEWMAC All-Conference selection. This season, she recorded eight double-doubles (points-rebounds) and also one triple-double (points-rebounds-assists). Leong finished the NEWMAC regular season ranked in the top-10 in the league in points, rebounds, assists, and steals, and was the top-rebounding guard in the conference.
The senior closed out a fantastic career at Wellesley with 1,092 points, 1,092 points, 698 rebounds, 215 assists, and 157 steals in 94 career games. She ranks in the program's top-10 in all four categories.
Prior to Leong's award, the last time Wellesley placed any basketball player on an All-Region team was in 2005 when Erin Johnson '05 was named to the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWMAC) All-Star team.
