Leong Plays in NEWBA Senior All-Star Game

NORTHAMPTON, Mass – On Saturday, Wellesley College senior point guard Leslie Leong played in the 2015 New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Senior Classic.  The game was played at Smith College in Northampton.

Leong, the NEWMAC Player of the Year, was joined on the "Home" team by fellow NEWMAC senior Rosa Drummond, who was playing in front of her home crowd at Smith.  The NEWMAC was also represented by Springfield College coach Naomi Graves, who led the visiting team.

Leong scored four points from the point guard position in a tightly contested game that went to the "Away" team by a final score of 76-74.  Drummond and Salem State's Ginny Fleming paced the home team with 15 and 16 points, respectively, while Shantel Hanniford from Trinity College (CT) scored 16 for the visitors.

Leong was recently named to the NEWMAC All-Academic team as well as being selected to the Capital One Academic All-District team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (Co-SIDA).  The senior captain finished her career ranked in Wellesley's all-time top ten in points, rebounds, assists, and steals.  She was also the first Wellesley College basketball player since 2005 to be named first-team All-Region.
