SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- Three players finished in double-figures, led by junior Chelsi Scott's (Portland, Mich.) 15 points, as Wellesley College basketball topped Mount Holyoke College, 48-35, on Saturday afternoon in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action at Howard Gymnasium.

With the win, Wellesley snaps a six game skid, picking up their third NEWMAC victory of the season to improve to 3-8 in conference and 6-13 overall. The Lyons slip to 6-13 and 3-7 in the NEWMAC.

Scott totaled her 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the floor, also knocking down five free throws and grabbing seven rebounds. She was joined in double figures by Morgyne Weaver (Oklahoma City, Okla.), as the senior forward scored 12 points while also pulling down a game-high eight rebounds. Senior Meghan Sargent added 10 points in 20 minutes off the Wellesley bench, notching her first double-digit scoring total of the season thanks to an eight point second half.

For the Lyons, senior guard Kate Karraker (Morgantown, W.V.) had 14 points to go along with a game-high three assists and a steal. Senior forward Amber Legare (Chicopee, Mass.) added seven points and a game-high nine rebounds, while classmate Nicole DeMarchena (Miami, Fla.) had seven points, seven boards and a game-high four blocks.

Mount Holyoke opened the contest on a 12-2 run, taking a ten point lead at 13:40 following back-to-back three pointers from Karraker. Wellesley countered with a run of its own, scoring 11 of the next 12 points in the contest to tie the game, at 13-all, when Weaver hit one of two free throws at 6:38.

The Blue took their first lead of the game on the next possession, as Sargent banked home a layup to make the score 16-15. The Blue would grow their lead to eight points over the final five minutes of the first, taking a 24-16 lead into the break.

Mount Holyoke never threatened after the half, as Wellesley led throughout the second stanza. The Blue took their largest lead of the contest, at 40-23, when Weaver hit a jumper with 10:22 to play. Both Weaver and Scott scored six points in the second half as Blue shot 26 percent after the break.

Both teams return to NEWMAC action on Wednesday as Mount Holyoke travels to Coast Guard for a 7:30pm contest, while Wellesley hosts Babson at 7pm.
