Wellesley to Host National Girls & Women in Sports Day Event on February 6th

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Wellesley College Athletics will celebrate the 33rd Annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day when the Blue basketball team hosts MIT on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse.

This year's event will include a clinic for girls athletes between the ages of 6 and 12, run by the Wellesley Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). The clinic will run prior to the game at 6:00 PM and will end with an exciting obstacle course! Tip-off for the basketball game is 7:00 PM. Both events are free and open to the public and the first 50 girls registered for the event will receive a free Wellesley t-shirt.

Wellesley's clinic and basketball game will be one of more than 500 events taking place across the country for National Girls and Women in Sports Day. The Day is devoted to recognizing the progress of girls and women in sports, and the benefits that sports and fitness activities can bring to the lives of all girls and women. The Day is organized nationally by the Women's Sports Foundation.

> CLINIC REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED! See you Wednesday!

Wellesley will host an event on National Girls and Women in Sports Day for the third year in-a-row. Local youth teams and members of the Wellesley College community are also invited to share in the celebration and enjoy free Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream at halftime of the basketball game! The basketball game will include a halftime ceremony recognizing the accomplishments of Wellesley's Seven Sisters and New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) champions and NCAA championship participants from the past year.

Wellesley Athletics strives for excellence at the conference, regional, and national levels, while providing opportunities for students to achieve their potential and learn the values of discipline, leadership, critical thinking, and responsibility to oneself and others.
