Wellesley Basketball Seniors Earn NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Honors

WESTWOOD, Mass. -- The New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) has announced the 2019-20 Women's Basketball Academic All-Conference Team. A total of 49 student-athletes were honored, including all three members of the Wellesley College basketball senior class.

Caitlin Aguirre (El Paso, Texas), Emily Kopp (King Ferry, N.Y.), and Kendall You Mak (San Francisco, Calif.) each earned a spot on the Academic All-Conference team. The honor is the third straight for both Aguirre and You Mak. Aguirre is a Biochemistry major and You Mak is a Geosciences major. You Mak, a three-sport athlete in soccer, basketball, and lacrosse, has now earned NEWMAC Academic All-Conference honors seven times in their career. Kopp, a Biology major, earns the honros for the first time in her career. 

Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2019 fall semester, achieved second year academic status at their institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.

Wellesley opens the 2020 NEWMAC Women's Basketball Championship tournament tomorrow night, Wednesday, February 26, with a 7:00 PM contest at MIT. 


The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference consists of 11 highly selective institutions committed to academic excellence: Babson College, Clark University, U.S Coast Guard Academy, Emerson College, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, Springfield College, Wellesley College, Wheaton College, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
