Offense on Display in Blue Basketball's 75-42 Win over Dean

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Led by a trio of scorers in double figures, Wellesley College basketball earned a convincing 75-42 non-conference victory over Dean College at Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse on Monday.

First year Trinity Barrow (Evans, Ga.) stuffed the statsheet with game-highs in points (18), assists (6), and steals (7) for the Blue (7-5 overall). Junior Caitlin Windross (Eastvale, Calif.) had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds and sophomore Yitzel Serna (Palmdale, Calif.) contributed 10 points and five steals. The team snatched a season-high 18 steals.

Junior Tori Viau (Johnston, R.I.) led the Bulldogs (2-11 Overall) with 13 points and classmate Maranda Cournoyer (Millville, Mass.) tacked on eight points and pulled down six rebounds.

The Blue used a 9-0 run to lead 21-7 after one quarter of action. Barrow was responsible for seven points and five rebounds for the Blue.

Wellesley grew its lead to 22 three minutes into the second quarter. The Bulldogs trimmed the deficit to 14 at 33-19 with a little over a minute left in the quarter before Baskets from senior Jiyun Chae (Chantilly, Va.) and first year Anna Bandini (Raleigh, N.C.) put the Blue up 18 at the end of the half.

Serna scored seven unanswered points to put Wellesley up 45-21 at the seven-minute mark of the third quarter. The Blue's lead expanded to 30 midway through the third, and Wellesley held a 59-32 lead at the end of the quarter. The Blue shot 10-for-16 (62.5%) from the field in the third.

Windross connected on a couple three's in the fourth quarter for the Blue. Wellesley closed out a comfortable 75-42 win to give the team momentum heading into NEWMAC play.

Up next, the Blue open NEWMAC season at home against Clark on Saturday, January 13 at 1:00 PM and the Bulldogs host New England College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, January 10.
