Wellesley Crew Takes Second At 2010 NEWMAC Championships

Smith took first place overall and also won the overall points trophy with 28 team points. Wellesley took second with 24 points, followed by Mount Holyoke with 18 points. Rounding out the team scores, Coast Guard tallied 10 points, WPI picked up four and Clark added two points.

In the tightest race of the morning, Wellesley was narrowly edged out by Smith in the varsity eight race. The defending champions crossed the finish line in a time of 6:59.8, just ahead of the Blue, who recorded a 7:00.1. Coast Guard and Mount Holyoke finished a close race in third and fourth, while WPI and Clark rounded out the six boat contingent.
 
Earlier in the day, Wellesley claimed the title in the Second Varsity Eight with a time of 7:11.0. The Blue crossed the finish ahead of Mount Holyoke (7:12.5), Smith (7:18.08) and Coast Guard (7:35.4).

The Blue third varsity eight took second in their race, while the Wellesley novice boat took third place.

The Blue were represented on the varsity All-Conference Team by senior Hannah Dornbusch (Madison, WI) and Kate Spelman (Scituate, MA). Aidan Chambers (Bethesda, MA) was named to the novice All-Conference team.
